this game page doesn't explain the game, trust me.

This is absolutely stunning. If someone told me this game was on steam developed by some studio, I'd believe them without a doubt. The polish is incredible, and at first I didn't see the theme, but it was hiding in plain sight. Absolutely deserved first place, congrats!

Congratulations on winning the game jam!! You are an excellent dev and I love your other games too, great job with this one

Makes for Mobile too bro, I found the game really cool.

That game is amazing!

serious guy, i just don't give money for this game because i don't have money.

but other than that this game is the eighth wonder of the world.

I have already played the game 2 times since I saw your submission on the jam page. This is one of the most simple yet so mesmerizing game in the whole game jam. Truly fascinating! Inspired me A LOT!

I have one question. The character's cloak feels like 3d sometimes because of the red gem on it and the way they move and cover each other. I saw you replied to Zoppazop's comment saying that it was done procedurally using code. If so, can you please explain how did you achieve it? Or any other resource explaining that would be equally helpful. Thanks!

The 3d effect of the cloak was almost completely accidental (at least I didn't think it would work so well). I tried using Unity's sprite skin package for the first time and set up three bones on the cloak all anchored at the top. I lerp the rotation of two bones at the side to the players x velocity plus a sine wave that matches the players steps. I think the way sprite skin warps the image plus the simplicity of the sprite plays a big part in the 3D illusion. I might make a thread on twitter about it at some point

wow this game was really good and and fun to play. I can't wait  to to see what comes next!!!

This is beautiful, the simplicity, art story and also the animation, animation make move left and right so fun and satisfying and perfectly fits with the character, btw i got jumpscare at start coz i forgot to turn the volume a little bit lol :)

WOW! this is simply incredible; the animations, the music, everything! well done!

How did you manage to make this in a week? This is amazing! The art, the story, I love it. I especially like the big fish enemys! Please turn this into a full realease! If it had more gameplay and would cost about 10 or 15 bucks I would definely buy it. And if you do this, please add more of these amazing Enemys. Question: Is the fish-thingy that floats around you made with procedural animation?

Only one thing is missing, I think: In which way is this fitting the theme?

(+1)

Yes the floaty fish friend is completely procedurally animated through code and so is the player character.

Usually when I do a game jam I try to fit a mechanic to the theme, but this time I wanted to try to build the game around the design philosophy "less is more" / "design by subtraction". I tried to use as little as possible to tell a short story, so the first half is dark and you're always going down, then it switches to being colourful and bright as you return to the surface. I guess I tried to use as little as I could to show the characters relationships

Oh, that makes sense. I think it would have been good if you wrote on the submission page. Did you allready think of working on it more, and maybe making it a full release? I played the game three times now and I will continue. I'm a big fan!

(+1)

... I was not prepared for this, but this was absolutely amazing. The only fitting compliment for this has to be, "please turn this into a full game". I spent 15 minutes of this, and it felt like seconds, I believe you have something special on your hands here :)

Thanks for playing! But I'm not sure I could flesh out this game more without spoiling the simplicity, plus I've already got way too many projects on the go right now

(+1)

I love the art style and mechanic of "hiding" from the monsters. It suits the character's design and compliments the platforming very well. A great submission, short and sweet :)

(+2)

This is so cool!  The movement feels fluid and precise yet unique and I like the way the little floaty creature is incorporated into it.  On top of that the art is stylistic and mysterious.  Again, love it!

(+3)

Cool game! Always excited to play a game by you. Atmosphere was mysterious and cool. I like it.
